A Little Help From Friends
Friends are the main reason my mid-life reinvention was able to happen. Friends, new ones and ones who have been around for a while, could be counted on to be both compassionate and challenging. Friends walked beside me through the icky and motivated me to get onto my new right path.
Speaking
I’ve said it before and will say it a thousand more times that being stuck in my head is a dangerous place for me to be. I can convince myself of a plan one day and talk myself out of it the next. I’m not just my harshest critic; I can be downright cruel. I’m not the only one, right?? But, thanks to friends, I had an outlet for both the thoughts and the fears. I could speak out loud what was rolling around ever so viciously in my mind. Friends going through similar “stuff” were a great sounding board.
What should you speak out loud to a friend so you better understand its relevance to your present and future self?
Hearing
Thinking and speaking my words are one thing, hearing feedback on how they land brings it to a whole new level. I trust and respect my friends, so when I hear the questions they have to what I am saying or if they can relate to my message, it pours fuel on my fire. Their words help me fine tune my words and that brings them to life. Reactions and responses are priceless when you are trying to create something or clarify your thoughts.
How good of a listener are you to both the words you speak and the feedback you are given?
Feeling
Engaging with friends filled my cup and gave me so much to be thankful for. They provided motivation and inspiration which can be fleeting when you are working alone. It meant a lot to feel their faith in my abilities, be reminded that I belong on my path, and know they expected me to succeed. You can’t put a price on it, that’s for sure.
What feeling is missing from your life right now and who can provide it to you?
